Meet The Keenan Team
Dr. Dirk Keenan, D.C.
Doctor of Chiropractic
Dr. Dirk Keenan graduated from Carleton University, following which he graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College after completing the 4-year Doctor of Chiropractic Program. He has enjoyed a successful practice for over 30 years in Ottawa, taking over from his father, Dr. Bud Keenan, who was a pioneer in the chiropractic profession.
As a leader in the chiropractic community, Dr. Keenan has held various senior positions within the national and provincial associations, including being the former Ontario Governor for the Canadian Chiropractic Association, a former Director of the Ontario Chiropractic Association, and the former President of the Eastern Ontario Chiropractic Society. He was the founder and director of the Carlington Chiropractic Clinic – Ontario’s first free clinic for the underprivileged, and is a visiting lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine. In 2016, Dr. Keenan was awarded the Chiropractor of the Year Award by the Ontario Chiropractic Association.
In addition to his full-time practice, extensive network activities, and time with his family, Dr. Dirk Keenan enjoys outdoor sports year-round, traveling and teaching.
Dr. Jan Dorrell, N.D.
Dr. Dorrell is an honours graduate of Carleton University and the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto, Ontario and has come to be a well recognized name in the natural health community in Ottawa. She has been a member of the Keenan Health Centre network for the past several years and is now part of our in-house team full-time, after 10 years of practice at the Clinic Upstairs.
Dr. Dorrell believes in health promotion through gentle, natural techniques in addition to lifestyle and nutrition. She leads an active lifestyle enjoying travel, hiking, camping, boating and time with her family and friends.
Dr. Chris Martin, D.C.
Doctor of Chiropractic
Dr. Chris Martin graduated from Carleton University in Science in 1975 and from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 1978, after completing the four year Doctor of Chiropractic program. He practiced for 34 years in British Columbia and was elected to the position of President of the British Columbia Chiropractic Association from 1987-1989. Dr. Martin went on to become chairman of the Standards of Practice committee of the College of Chiropractors of BC until 1998. He was elected as director to the Canadian Chiropractic Association in 1998 and served as Chair of the Research Committee until 2006. Dr. Martin was elected to the Canadian Chiropractic Research Foundation in 2001 and continues to serve on this board as a director and past president. Dr. Martin was awarded the William Lindsay Memorial Award for Chiropractic excellence in 1991.
Dr. Martin relocated his practice to Ottawa in 2013, where he originally grew up, to be closer to his family and grandchildren. Chris enjoys golf, tennis, cross-country skiing, and spending time at their cottage with his wife, children, and their four grandchildren.
Dr. Carlan Stants, D.C.
Dr. Stants is the Director of Assessment Services and a Chiropractic Specialist. He has over 20 years of clinical experience, and spent 14 years as a Professor of Orthopaedics and Diagnosis at Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. He is also the current President and Chair of the Education Committee of the Canadian Chiropractic College of Rehabilitation Sciences. Dr. Stants is responsible for the three-year educational program for Chiropractic Rehabilitation Specialists in Canada. He remains an active lecturer and a frequent guest speaker at conferences.
Chantal Goneau, PT
Chantal is a bilingual graduate from Ottawa University in 1993. She worked in Louisiana and Texas for a total of 5 years. In addition to Keenan Health Centre, Chantal has worked at the Nepean Sports Medicine and Physiotherapy Center since 2007.
Chantal believes a multidisciplinary approach to patient care is essential to attain overall wellness. She is passionate about educating and empowering individuals to live an active, balanced and healthy lifestyle.
She is continuously seeking to improve her skills by taking courses, participating in webinars, reading the latest research/articles on health and fitness and attending the Can-Fit-Pro World Fitness Expo in Toronto. Chantal is a certified Functional Movement Systems practitioner and as a certified personal trainer specialist. She has taken courses in acupuncture, soft tissue release, manual therapy, running injuries.
Chantal is personally committed to living a healthy, active and balanced lifestyle. She enjoys outdoor activities, yoga, spinning, fitness training, and traveling.
Jamie Emery, PT
Jamie Emery is a Registered Physiotherapist who has successfully completed her Masters of Physiotherapy degree from the University of Ottawa in 2016. She obtained her Bachelors of Science degree from McGill University in 2013. Jamie has experience working with a diverse clientele and conditions including intensive care, neurological rehab, cardio-respiratory conditions, orthopedic conditions, and sports-related injuries. In addition to working evenings at Keenan Health Centre, she works at Hampton Wellness Centre.
Jamie is passionate about helping patients improve their quality of life so they can return to the activities that they love. She takes a very active approach to treating each of her patients, creating individualized programs and empowering each person to become involved in their own rehabilitation journey. Jamie is dedicated to pursuing post-graduate education courses and staying up to date on the latest evidence-based practice to provide the best possible care for her patients.
In her spare time, Jamie has been very involved in the tennis community in the Ottawa region over the last several years. She is a tennis player herself and enjoys living an active, healthy lifestyle. She also enjoys traveling, volunteering, reading and (of course) chocolate. Her goal is to establish a positive and welcoming environment in the clinic and to always greet you with a smile.
Robyn MacRae, RMT
Registered Massage Therapist
Robyn’s education is founded on an in depth understanding of anatomy. She successfully completed her training as a Registered Massage Therapist in 2009 from Kine Concept. She is passionate about helping people overcome injury, pain and dysfunction to maintain a healthy state. Her treatments combine Swedish massage with trigger point therapy, deep tissue massage and stretching. She has a quiet empathetic and calming presence about her that helps you relax while receiving the individualized care you need.
Robyn enjoys most of her free time outdoors with her family fishing, ATVing, swimming, hiking and skiing.
Liam Birkwood, RMT
Registered Massage Therapist
Liam Birkwood is a Registered Massage Therapist and the newest member of our team. He graduated from Algonquin College’s Massage Therapy Program. Liam likes to help others live a relaxing, stress-free lifestyle which is also one of the many benefits of massage therapy. His practice focuses around sports massage, relaxation massage and injury rehabilitation; however, it is certainly not limited to these three options.
While his favourite sport to play is rugby, he is an avid and enthusiastic fan of all sports. Liam describes himself as approachable, open, and easy to talk to. He looks forward to meeting new people and making a positive difference in their lives!
Virginia Spencer, RHN
Registered Holistic Nutritionist
Metagenics Certified First Line Therapy Lifestyle Educator
Virginia is a Registered Holistic Nutritionist with over a decade of experience working in lifestyle and nutrition counselling. She graduated from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition with honours and holds their Advanced Cognitive Support Certificate. Additionally Virginia is a Certified Lifestyle Educator with Metagenics and a graduate of the Algonquin College Management Studies program. She is a member of CAHN-Pro and the CSNN Alumni Association.
Virginia is passionate about teaching nutrition to everyone. She is an instructor at CSNN and has over twenty years of experience mentoring and coaching individuals in her role as a manager. She works in general practice with a focus on cognitive support, longevity, metabolic support, traditional diets, and ancestral diets.
In her spare time Virginia can be found on her bike, in her hiking shoes, or in a tent enjoying the fresh air and outdoor exercise.
Virginia is available for speaking engagements and corporate wellness programs.
After graduating with honours from Herzing College’s Medical Office Administration program, Heather soon joined Keenan Health Centre team as a Wellness Assistant. She loves being a part of the Keenan team and assisting both the practitioners and patients to the best of her ability.
Helping others has been a lifelong passion of Heather’s. She genuinely enjoys bringing positivity and happiness to others lives. Her sense of fun and quirky humour light up our reception room and with that, she participates in the good health of our team and our patients.
In her spare time Heather enjoys spoiling her dog Jade, reading, going to comedy shows, camping, cooking, and living an active balanced lifestyle.
Nicole Fodor, RHN
Nicole is a Registered Holistic Nutritionist and graduate of the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition. Although she is not currently practicing as a nutritionist, she is passionate about wellness and committed to helping others achieve their health goals. She does this at Keenan Health Centre by gently guiding our patients, assisting our practitioner team, and helping the clinic to run smoothly. She enjoys her work and you are sure to see her with a smile on her face.
In her free time, Nicole enjoys a wide variety of outdoor activities. She enjoys cycling (the better way to commute!), backpacking, camping, canoeing, hiking, diving, rock climbing, and in the winter snowboarding and skiing. When home she loves to cuddle with her cat, attempt to grow plants, and experiment with various brews and kitchen concoctions.
