Keenan Health Centre support team members must demonstrate excellence in 5 key areas, in order to be selected for our team. They are:

1. Skilled and Compelling Communicator

Members of the Keenan Health Centre support team are the hub of clinic, and are responsible for coordination of client care, work across healthcare providers, and public representation through phone, email and social media posts. They must demonstrate superior communication skills.

This will be evident by their ability to:

  • speak in crisp and clear English and be easily understood
  • immediately make a positive connection with the people they meet, provide a good handshake and engage in conversation
  • remember names
  • use correct body language, including maintaining an appropriate level of eye contact during conversation and smiling easily
  • speak clearly without mumbling, and select a tone appropriate to the subject matter and the other parties
  • ask questions and listen
  • explain complex material in easy to understand ways to their clients and laypeople
  • describe the benefits of the various professions in our clinic to a layperson
  • encourage and compel others with positive and supportive language
  • Write marketing materials and create technical medical letters to other healthcare professionals, with high accuracy and efficiency

2. Passionate About Health Promotion

At Keenan Health Centre, passion for health promotion through integrative and drugless care is at the core of what we do. Our support team members play a pivotal role in the client experience and thus healing outcomes, so they, like our practitioners, are also expected have a passion for their own profession. This is evidenced by their ability to:

  • tell a great story about how they decided to work in such a clinic
  • have up-tone conversations about what they can do from a customer service perspective
  • provide examples of clients they have helped

3. Technologically Competent

Technology in a modern clinic is essential for team coordination, patient management, operational excellence, and to liaise with other facilities and organizations. Each support team member must be computer (PC) literate as evidenced by their ability to:

  • enter information into the clinic’s patient management software, including reports and letters to medical doctors
  • create and maintain database and Excel spreadsheets for logs, statistics and tracking purposes
  • create a program of care for clients who desire it (using a spreadsheet for financial calculations)
  • create attractive and engaging marketing materials using PowerPoint, Word and Publisher
  • conduct internet research where appropriate
  • communicate with clients and other stakeholders by email
  • create educational posts on social media following the guidelines of the professions and the clinic, and download information for the same purposes

4. Lives Locally and Uses Green Transportation

At Keenan Health Centre, our commitment to healthy living means both exercise, and supporting our environment with sustainable commuting activities. Staff are expected to participate in greening their commute, while also maintaining maximum parking space for clients on site.

This includes, where possible:

  • Walking
  • Cycling
  • Public transit use

5. Able to Perform Physical Maintenance Tasks

Keenan Health Centre is located within a 2 floor century home that requires moderate daily house cleaning, residential style garbage removal, etc. Employees must be able to:

  • Ascend and descend stairs
  • Move furniture
  • Perform light housekeeping duties: laundry, vacuuming, steaming floors, dusting, sanitizing surfaces
  • Sweep entrance ways
  • Spread salt in winter until grounds contractors arrive
  • File above their head in the archive and filing areas
  • Put garbage and recycles at curbside for weekly collection

Additional Skills:

  • Ability to manage multiple channels of communication (phone, email, verbal, texts), while maintaining excellent in-house customer service – establishing eye contact and prioritizing service
  • High degree of organization and ability to organize others such as managing team calendars, work batching and team coordination
  • High degree of accuracy in basic math (adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing) and numbers use
  • Efficient and accurate filing skills, spelling and alphabetizing
  • Sales and marketing including the ability to give a 5-minute talk
  • Keyboarding (minimum 60 words per minute)
  • Microsoft Office proficient (including Word, Publisher, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Graphic design basics for in-house advertisements, and social media image
  • Social media production: video, photography
  • Record and bookkeeping accuracy
  • Inventory control

Required Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in high volume operations that require multitasking such as wait-staff, retail, other healthcare, high volume retail

Clinician Requirements: Non-Negotiables

Keenan Health Centre Clinicians must demonstrate excellence in 4 key areas, in order to be selected for our team. They are:

1. Skilled and Compelling Communicator

Each clinician must be an excellent verbal and written communicator in order to build relationships  with our team and patients, and to represent Keenan Health Centre to the general public.

This will be evident by their ability to:

  • immediately make a positive connection with the people they meet, provide a good handshake and engage in conversation
  • remember names
  • use correct body language, including maintaining an appropriate level of eye contact during conversation and smiling easily
  • speak clearly without mumbling, and select a tone appropriate to the subject matter and the other parties
  • ask questions and listen
  • explain complex material in easy to understand ways to their clients and laypeople
  • create and deliver compelling 30 second infomercials and a 2 minute elevator pitch
  • encourage and compel others with positive and supportive language

  • create educational posts on social media following the guidelines of their profession and the clinic, and download information for the same purposes
  • report on their social media standing

 

4. Coaching Oriented and Skilled

Coaching is central to the Keenan Health Centre model of care. In addition to recommendations and teaching, coaching helps clients understand their care programs and adhere to them, while committing to the necessary lifestyle changes.

Clinicians must be able to demonstrate their ability to:

  • ask questions and lead a discovery session to help clients identify their pain/dysfunction, the impact on their life, and the how and what they will invest to feel better
  • recognize the stages of change and choose appropriate coaching methods to move their clients forward
  • continue to motivate and inspire others to take action on their health each visit, and in the public
  • talk to a client about non-compliance with their program or between-visit instructions
  • participate in and receive coaching for their own practices

 

Additional Skills:

  • Sales and marketing including the ability to give a 5-minute talk
  • Create a multi-optioned Program of Care for clients to choose from
  • Handle objections and provide solutions for barriers to care
  • Able to evaluate cases and apply logical treatment recommendations
  • Competent in record keeping and file maintenance

Required Experience:

  • 5 years of patient care, including scope appropriate intake methods and regular reassessment processes (consultations, exams, tests, and questionnaires and symptomatology reviews)
  • Demonstrated competency in their field and scope with references from other practitioners
  • Demonstrated history of volunteer hours either to their profession or a non-profit organization
